Compounding

Although large drug companies have made possible excellent mass-produced medications, they are unable to meet the needs of everyone. Some manufacturers no longer produce certain medications. Some drugs may not be available in a strength or dosage form that suits the patient. For such problems, specialized compounding may be the answer. The pharmacists at Stuart Ellis IDA Pharmacy have been schooled in extemporaneous compounding, the art and science of preparing medications to meet specific patient needs. Through compounding we can help physicians and their patients by providing customized and unique formulations.

Veterinary Medicine:

Giving the family pooch a pill everyday can be a real strain for your pet as well as for you. But we can help. We can make troches, lozenges, transdermal gels and or different flavorings, (i.e. beef, liver, fish and chicken) to help your pet keep the medicine down.

Commercial products often exist in higher doses than are necessary for small animals. Medications can be prepared in animal friendly flavours in animal friendly treats or small volume flavoured liquids.

Dentistry:

Your dentist may require different gels, pastes and lozenges, to help make your trip to the dentist a little more pleasant and effective.

Bio-identical Hormone Replacement Therapy:

Hormone replacement therapy is the most debated topic in menopause. Should you? Shouldn't you? How much? How long? Is it harmful? Will it make me feel better? The key to answering these questions is to work with professionals who specialize in midlife and menopause issues. You need to ask questions and understand your options. Working with knowledgeable healthcare professionals will help you to design a program that matches your health needs and goals. Choice gives us power over our own bodies and lives.

Menopause is not a disease. It is a normal part of aging when your hormone levels become unbalanced. The goal of hormone replacement therapy should always be to restore this balance and ultimately help you to live a longer, happier and healthier life.

In recent years studies have shown that traditional HRT may not be as safe as we once thought. It may also have negative effects on heart disease; something that at one time was believed to be a benefit of taking HRT. As well, conventional hormones and hormones derived from animal sources cannot be properly metabolized by the human body. Alternatives to conventional therapy include the use of bio-identical hormones. These hormones are derived from bio-identical plant hormone product and possibly more closely replicate a woman’s own hormones. When prescribed in appropriate doses they may produce fewer side effects. As a compounding pharmacist, Lesley Paul (Certified Menopause Practitioner) will work closely with you, your physician and/or other health care providers to ensure that you receive the individualized treatment that’s just right for you.

Our goal is to achieve the proper hormonal balance by using nutrition, nutritional supplementation, as well as an exercise program, and bio-identical hormone replacement therapy if necessary. We are committed to providing you with the highest quality care.
